LED Starcloths

STARCLOTH SPECIFICATIONS

LED - Light Emitting Diode (PAF)

Cloth, materials and construction

Any cloth can be bespoke to the client’s requirement in any shape or size.

The standard format consists of a face cloth manufactured in width multiples of 1.5m (5ft) and varying lengths, normally 1.5m (5ft) increments.

The cloth widths indicated are multiples of the fabric roll width.

Normally the face cloth is ‘Black’ Wool Serge – DFR BS.5867 certified or DIN 4102 B1 for applications within Germany.

The wool serge has a deep black pigment and has a personality, which enhances the effect of any light point as the cloth has very little sheen.

This face cloth is fitted with ‘velcro’ to the leading and trailing edges so that adjoining cloths can be fastened together for neatness.
In addition ‘velcro’ is fitted to the perimeter of the cloth so that a backing material can be attached.
Whilst this method is more expensive than a permanent backing, it allows for instant removal for potential servicing and in addition quick replacement if any damage is incurred.

Backing material consists of a black lightweight canvas or cotton sheeting (NDFR).

Each cloth shell can be fitted with tie tapes or eyelets and loose tapes to the top webbing for hanging of the cloths. The latter format allows for client replacement of damaged tie tapes without the need of sewing.

Equipment

The total amount of points is based on an approximation of 10 per sq.m

The diode has a blue / white appearance

Each diode is fitted to it’s own ‘button’ pcb with a totally flush fit eliminating any movement. The pcb is additionally mounted within a polycarbonate enclosure with a removable back for ease of maintenance. At a later date you may wish to replace the pcb with an rgb unit. The enclosure makes this operation a smooth transition with minimal wiring modifications.

They do not suffer from shock breakages and are virtually indestructible.
In the unlikely event of replacement, the buttons are easily maintained and re-soldered with ease. PCB tracks are rated at 6amps

LED’s can be either dome top or wide angle flat top random fitted at 1:3 ratio.
Luminance is much greater than incandescent sources and heat free, thus damage is not incurred when dismantling cloths. Incandescent sources are particularly vulnerable after long periods of use when the glass is hot and brittle. In addition this virtual zero heat build up, further eliminates the possibility of cloth scorching.

Lamp life is in excess of 10000hrs

Power consumption is very low and with the specific wiring layout we employ equates to 20ma per series of three sources thus :
In comparison a 240 lamp 12vdc cloth draws in the region of 500ma per circuit – traditional incandescent cloths would be 28vac and draw 2.85a per circuit.

Daisy chaining of these cloths would be achieved via the 240v ac supplies – miniature connectors and multi core cables. Traditional cloths are usually interconnected via the low voltage side. This in effect produces a volt drop scenario and an imbalance in light output whereby the cloth closest to the transformer will be the brightest. In addition volt drop increases amp draw.

Each cloth would be supplied with it’s own set of power supplies – these items are 200 x 120 x 60mm @ 1.3kgs, and would be external to each cloth. Line input voltage connectors and thru’ connectors for daisy chaining fitted as standard.

Smaller cloths would be supplied with single 13 amp moulded power supply for static operation. The 800ma 12v unit will power up to 120 light points. (PSU output will vary in relation to total light points).
